The microbiome is the community of bacteria and other microorganisms that live in and on our dogs (and us too!).

Playing a super important role in health & disease, there are multiple of these communities on our bodies, including mouth, gut and skin microbiomes.

Unlike our genes, our microbiomes are something that we can easily change through diet & lifestyle. At Treat, we're empowering you as a pet parent to know exactly what's going inside your doggo.

The gut microbiome is the community of tiny microorganisms that live specifically in the gut. This community is directly related to everything that goes into our mouths - how well we absorb different nutrients (such as proteins, fats and carbohydrates among others) depends directly on these bacterial middle-men! This community is particularly important for protecting against inflammation, bolstering immunity & processing essential nutrients.

Most interestingly - every gut microbiome is unique!

Nope! And that's what we find totally fascinating. Known as our 'Second Brain' numerous studies have shown that due to the unique network of blood vessels and nerves around our gut, it serves as a direct controller of everything ranging from our mood to our risk for chronic long-term conditions.

Recent advances in genetic sequencing technology, data science and biological computing have propelled our understanding of this extremely complex interconnected network of bugs, which now represents cutting-edge scientific research.

Individual differences in our dogs’ gut microbiomes mean that our dogs can have dramatically different responses to the same food. Different microbiomes are better adapted for better diets. Feeding for our dogs’ microbiomes can help improve their overall health.

Additionally, many of our dogs eat the same thing, day-in, day-out. We want to find a way to make sure that these month-long choices are adapted for their overall health.

Diet, antibiotics, exercise levels, exposure to certain environments, how they were born, stress levels...

These are all examples of factors that cause our dogs’ microbiomes to change over time. Sounds like a lot? The good thing is that we have full control over this. Take our test and learn what you can do better!

We like to give three simple tips to get people started on better dog nutrition:

• C – Change it up! You too wouldn’t feel good eating the same thing every day, would you?
• E – Experiment. Dogs can eat fresh food too. Try small portions of fruit and vegetables and learn what kind of snacks your dog likes (just make sure to avoid chocolate, onions and grapes!)
• S – Supplement. Some nutrients are harder to get from food – try out specific supplements, oils & spices with your dog - like you would for yourself!

If you make any key lifestyle changes, we’d recommend repeating the test to check up on your dogs’ health. It’s not essential but it can also be a fun way to explore new things with your dog - whether it’s a new living environment, new food type or a new form of activity. We've had a range of perspectives; some try a test once a month, some once a quarter or a couple of times a year. For example, some of our pet-parents want to investigate the effects of their newest probiotic purchase or whether their doggo has had a positive change on a raw diet. Whatever it is - we're here to help you unlock this information!

Absolutely! Either, have the kit sent directly to the lucky recipient, or delivered to yourself. The activation starts on receipt of the kit, so anyone can use the kit once it has been purchased.

You kit will be dispatched locally within 2-3 working days 🇸🇬 Ordered from overseas? (how did you manage that...!) Reach out to a team member to get updates on your estimated delivery time.

This will depend on what country you are in. For example, in Singapore, currently, the turnaround time is around 2 weeks. 📑

Ah - the real sticky question.

Don't worry; we've thought about this very early on! Once you collect the sample, just pop it into the prepaid mailer provided in your kit & put it into any local postage box. Our labs should receive them in perfect condition in a couple of days.

If you can’t mail them for a few days, don't worry. The sample will be OK at room temperature.

Not to worry! It happens.

We'll need to send you a replacement tube if you have lost some of the liquid from the tube as this is very important for preserving the sample. Please pop us an email at hello@treattherapeutics.com and we'll get this sorted for you. 

Note, there will be a replacement fee charge of SGD15.00/GBP10.00 for this.

Otherwise, just make sure to clear it up quickly and ensure that it is not consumed by hound or hoo-man!
